“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” Ezekiel 22:30
I chose this verse, as it was a key verse used for The Call prayer gathering that I went to in the U.S. it was used to say to America that God is looking for his church to stand in the gap and pray and fast so that she doesn’t come under the judgement of God.
This is a very dark, gloomy, graphic passage of scripture. All through Ezekiel God is giving a warning, and a call to repent. In Ezekiel 20 God says, “Get rid of all the vile things that you’ve become addicted to. Don’t make yourselves filthy with the Egyptian no-god idols. I alone am God, your God.” Yet time and time again God’s people are addicted to idols. These man-made things that ensnare us and we give ourselves too instead of worshipping the One true God.
God always has a plan of salvation, he always offers a way out. Just like Adam and Eve had a choice to eat the fruit or not, like Noah had a way out from destruction, Ninevah had a chance to repent, Sodom and Gomorrah just needed a righteous remnant to be saved, yet not enough were found. Here in Ezekiel the Lord says, “I looked for someone among them who would build up the walland stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” The Lord is always looking for the ones who will honour him, and turn from idols.
2 Chronicles 16:9 says, “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” We must live our lives realising that God is always watching, he’s wanting to strengthen our hearts and lead us out of temptation from the idols that entice us. And on a national level, he wants us to stand in the gap for our nation. As God’s word says, righteousness exalts a nation.
Father, have mercy on me a sinner. I repent from the idols that I become entangled with. Strengthen me, and hear my prayers for our nation. Have mercy on our nation Lord, Let your kingdom come in Australia I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
