The Israelites went back to the sanctuary and wept before God until evening. They again inquired of God, “Shall we again go into battle against the Benjaminites, our brothers?”
God said, “Yes. Attack.”
The army took heart. The men of Israel took up the positions they had deployed on the first day. Judges 20:22-25
Over the last few Mondays, Carol and I have been watching the Lord of the Rings. What an epic battle between good and evil. It’s been reminding me of all the evil in this world that goes on all around us. One of the lines that has stood out to me is that the hearts of men will fail. It is so true. Without the Lord in our lives, we are driven to wickedness.
In this passage there was some horrific evil committed. Graphic, heartless, dark. Still today there is horrific crimes committed all over the earth.
We need to inquire of the Lord about how to respond. I have some friends that respond in politics, some that write letters, and set –up websites. People respond in many different ways. I feel the Lord has called me to evangelise. To find those in darkness and see them transformed into the light. The church is called to be a city on a hill, the light of the world. In the midst of all the darkness around us. Let’s set an example as the Body of Christ.
I would much rather spend time with a lost person sharing the gospel, or discipling a new Christian than anything else. That’s the way I fight against the darkness.
Lord, I commit myself to always inquiring of you. Ready me for whatever battles are ahead, dress me in the Armour of God. Amen.
