You became an example for all the Lord’s followers in Macedonia and Achaia. And because of you, the Lord’s message has spread everywhere in those regions. Now the news of your faith in God is known all over the world, and we don’t have to say a thing about it. Everyone is talking about how you welcomed us and how you turned away from idols to serve the true and living God. They also tell how you are waiting for his Son Jesus to come from heaven. God raised him from death, and on the day of judgment Jesus will save us from God’s anger. 1 Thess 1:7-10
Since New Hope Brisbane started, the people have been an example to me of whole-hearted followers of Christ. I’d heard great stories of people journaling and studying the word, like the Bereans in the Bible. I’d heard great stories of people being saved and transformed. I’d see the teachings of Jesus spread all over the city through radio, tv, newspapers, and the people I knew from New Hope, were some of the most passionate Christ followers I’d met. That’s what attracted me to join the church, I was looking for more fruit, for more lives changed for a more effective way to outreach. The church I was at, was and is an awesome church, but I felt God calling me on for something different. And even though I’m the Senior Pastor, I’m just as important as every other part of our church, we all need each other functioning in our gifts to stay a healthy church.
One thing that bugs me is seeing half-hearted Christians. Lukewarm people sitting on the fence, people who know the good they can do, but they get caught up in the busyness of life, or worldly things and bury their talent that God has given them. I see the people of New Hope Brisbane being an example to other churches and to the world. An example of a bunch of people who have crossed the line, who don’t want to miss the call of God in their life, who are willing to step out of the boat and take some risks for the kingdom of God, who study the word and live the word, people who love to worship and love to love each other. And because of them, the word of God will spread everywhere.
Lord, we pray that your message will be spread everywhere through New Hope Brisbane. May our lives be an example of how your gospel can transform lives, and how your word can empower us to change the world around us. Jesus, we eagerly await your return from heaven, make us ready! Come Holy Spirit and lead us on in your power!!! Amen.
