Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. Revelation 4:2
We’ve all heard the songs about heaven over the years. Heaven must be there by the Eurogliders, Heaven is a place on Earth by Belinda Carlisle, Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin, and John Lennon’s song Imagine which questions, “Imagine there’s no heaven, above us only sky?”
Here’s John giving his account of heaven. It’s hard for us to comprehend what it’s like, but John does give us some detail. Amazing colours, rainbows, lightning and thunder, Angels and animals, 24 thrones and 24 elders.
I’ve heard and read many accounts of people who claim to have been to heaven, it’s a hot topic, and it excites me to hear their stories, even if it’s being told from fallible imperfect humans, it blows my mind to try and comprehend. I think about the verse, in 1 Corinthians 2:9 “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him”
The thing I receive a lot of comfort from is that God is on the throne, and Christ is at his right hand. You can quote this verse any time in any situation, and it will bring comfort. There is a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. Revelation 4:2 God is on the throne. When you are sick. God is on the throne. Money problems. God is on the throne. World war 3? God is on the throne. Flood, cyclone, fire, or just a headache? God is on the throne.
It challenges me to think, how much of my life am I still on the throne? Am I ruling and reigning in my life, or have I handed over my life to my King who is on the throne? Am I trusting him with everything? Does my diary show that God is on the throne? Does my bank account? Do my family see that God is on the throne in my life?
Lord you are my king, come and rule and reign in my life. In Jesus name, Amen.
