Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:27-28
It’s a sobering thought to think about our death. Never again will we have a chance to fulfill our mission, never again will we have an opportunity to reach the lost, never again do we have the option to get our heart right with God. This verse says, “people are destined to die once.” Doctor’s say that 10/10 people die. It’s the common fate of all mankind. And after that we face judgement. The good news is that for those of us who’ve accepted Christ, we have received forgiveness of Sins. But then we will face the believers judgement, where we will be rewarded for the good works we have done. This reality stirs me to action every day. Like the Parable of the talents, I want to be found faithful with what God has entrusted to me. I want to hear, “Well done good & faithful servant.” Not, “Away from me you wicked & lazy servant.”
Most people expect to die when they are old, & think they have plenty of time to fulfill their mission in life. But one day, Jesus will come back like a “Thief in the night.” He “will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” I believe that day will be soon. I believe we are seeing the signs of the times before that great & glorious day! I believe time is precious & we must make the most of every day, & we will see a great harvest at the end of the age!
Even so come quickly Lord! Amen.
